Happy day after Memorial Day. If you got to eat a hot dog this weekend (or veggie dog…I don’t know your life), I hope it was accompanied by one of these.

This morning

This morning

…and here it is TEXAS STYLE.
So here’s the thing about me and “computer illustrations” - I go back and forth, starting with a brief flirtation with vectors as an undergrad (SANS-tablet…I refused to use a tablet in college on the premise of inexplicable “principal”…likely the same principal that kept me from showing up to class on time…I’ll never know), was forced into it as a commercial illustrator, then spent a while using Photoshop only to clean up pen and ink drawings that I’d scanned in. Occasionally I’d mess around, sketching over photos to see what it would be like if I could actually draw people the way they looked and such, but I always abandoned those projects; they looked stiff and uncomfortably foreign to me.
Truthfully, I’ve always found drawing on the computer to be enjoyable but surprisingly more labor-intensive than plugging away with Microns on vellum, despite the integrity of the mark (or lack thereof). That being said, after a few years with my handy Bamboo Wacom Tablet, I’ve finally noticed myself being able to make satisfactory marks with the tablet. It’s still a little slippery (I used to lay a piece of paper on the tablet pad and “draw” over it for the helpful friction drawing on actual paper provides), but I’m pleased enough with how this banner turned out to consider bringing the tablet into my regular routine for real.

I have revived and refreshed the online home of my side projects (mostly photos) right here at HOTMITZVAH. Feel free to check it out if you’re bored/like pretty people/hate hipsters/are a pedophile/crossed your eyes once and it stayed that way.
